- Open Program Files from the Start Menu, and click on Adobe Acrobat.
- Right click on Acrobat, and click "Run as Administrator".
- Select the "Disable all Adobe Digital Editions security checks".
- Make sure that your Adobe Acrobat DC Pro is selected, and press "OK".
- A security window will open asking you to install Adobe Acrobat DC Pro on your computer.
- Click on "Install", and the installer will automatically begin installing Adobe Acrobat DC Pro on your computer.
- It is recommended to install Adobe Acrobat DC Pro before upgrading to Adobe Acrobat DC Pro.
- A final security window will open asking you if you want to activate Adobe Acrobat DC Pro.
- Click on "Activate".
- A final security window will open again asking you to set a security password.
- Type in a password, and click "OK".
- A final security window will open for you to close the program.

- Click on the icon next to "Acrobat DC Pro" in your Start Menu.
- Right click on Acrobat DC Pro, and click "Run as Administrator".
- Select the "Disable all Adobe Digital Editions security checks".
- Click on the "Help" button next to the "Activate" button.
- Click on "About Adobe Acrobat".
- Your version of Adobe Acrobat DC Pro will be displayed.
- Click on "Activate".
- You are now ready to start using Adobe Acrobat DC Pro.
- You may get a message from Adobe saying that your computer is not supported.
- Click on "OK".
- You may get a message from Adobe saying that the "License Agreement" has not been accepted by your computer.
- Click on "OK".
- You may get a message from Adobe saying that "Adobe Acrobat DC Pro" has been activated on your computer.
- Click on "OK".
- A final security window will open asking you to set a security password.
- Type in a password, and click "OK".
- You are now ready to use Adobe Acrobat DC Pro.
- Click on the icon next to "Acrobat DC Pro" in your Start Menu.
- Right click on Acrobat DC Pro, and click "Run as Administrator".
- Select the "Disable all Adobe Digital Editions security checks".

Banging head against the wall can never cure real problems. The solution here was to examine the standard C++ header files and try to work out what the error was trying to tell me. I found a number of solutions on the interwebs and was able to finally solve my problem. Thanks everyone for the attention, time and kindness!
